The model has been equipped with some rare and advanced technology that makes it superior in its segment. It has features like a Rock-Trac 4×4 system, sway bar disconnect, a 4:1 low-gear ratio, and a body-on-frame design, all these elements contribute to its impressive off-road performance.
Also, it offers an impressive water wadding capacity of 834 mm, ensuring all the occupants sitting inside can pass through water-filled areas easily. It uses a robust 1995 cc Petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 268.20bhp at 5250rpm and a torque of 400Nm at 3000rpm. It can be purchased at the starting price of Rs 67.65 lakh (ex-showroom).
Mahindra Thar 4X4
When it comes to off-roading or going on mountains, Mahindra Thar three-door is considered one of the safe options. It comes with 4×4 capabilities, allowing the driver to push the car through any difficult terrain. The body-on-frame chassis, high ground clearance and all-terrain tyre make it a perfect adventure SUV in India.
Despite having all the qualities, the charm of the model somehow faded over after the launch of Thar Roxx. Still, the model holds strong sales figures in the company’s lineup. The SUV now can be purchased at the starting price of Rs 11.50 lakh, while the top model price goes up to Rs 17.60 lakh (all ex-showroom).
Toyota Fortuner
If there is talk of off-roading and the most reliable SUVs, it is hard to ignore the Toyota Fortuner. It gets everything one can ask for. It is powered by an impressive 2755cc diesel engine (1GD-FTV Turbocharged D-4D I4) and a 2694cc petrol engine. These units generate a maximum output of 201.15 bhp with 500 Nm of torque and 163.6 bhp with 245 Nm of torque respectively.
Talking about some notable features, it includes 4WD options, high and Low range, Downhill Assist Control (DAC), Active Traction Control (A-TRC) and whatnot.
Tata Safari
Last but certainly not least, the updated Tata Safari. It is a well-equipped SUV that not only offers a smooth driving experience on most challenging terrains but also comes with a 5-star global NCAP safety rating for both adult and child occupants.
It has been treated with a good off-road capabilities, a big thanks to high ground clearance (around 200mm) and an impressive suspension setup. Unfortunately, the model lacks proper 4WD, which somehow limits its capabilities compared to other rivals in the same segment
