People used to say that electrification would be the future and that the segment would eventually dominate the automobile industry. Well, it is no longer a dream anymore as the time is already here.
From leading manufacturers to performance-oriented carmakers now started following the trend, investing efforts to create EVs that can give customers all: performance, range, style, and obviously, comfort. Some are already raising the bar high with the technology in the vehicles, while Porsche with over a decade of legacy in the business is doing something extra, which is clearly visible in the all-new electric Macan Turbo.
Introduction
The model has not just joined the party but arrived with storms through the doors by flaunting a perfectly tailored tuxedo, holding a glass of champagne, and giving a tough look to the other members at the party.
Recently, we got an opportunity to sit behind the wheels of the flagship model of the company to test whether the price tag of Rs. 1.22 Crore (ex-showroom) is worth it or not. And, guess what, we have completed almost 300 km in just two days. How we felt after the drive, the views have been shared at the end of this article.
Design and Aesthetic
First thing first, the exterior as no one would ever spend crores in an ugly-looking car. In this area, the company has mastered the art of elegance and classiness. Despite even being electric, the E-Macan flaunts Porsche’s DNA, offering the same look as its ICE sibling (Internal Combustion Engine).
It features the same athletic lines from every corner, dominating road presence with an iconic matrix LED headlight setup as standard. The unit is paired with the fog lamps at the bottom, while the rear gets a signature-style rear LED light bar. Unfortunately, the EV does not get a rear wiper. However, the company tried to compensate for this with a 911-like active spoiler for better aerodynamics.
The model is leaner, more sculpted, and imbued with futuristic edges as compared to the ICE version. It is also longer in size as compared to its fuel-powered predecessor, and air suspension offers an improved ground clearance, ranging from 185mm to a full 224mm when off-road mode is engaged.
Platform, Battery, Power, and Range,
The model has been built on Porsche’s new PPE (Premium Platform Electric), jointly developed with Audi. However, the execution has been done on Porsche’s top principles that include Sportiness, luxury, practicality and purposeful.
Now, the important part, where the real party take place, battery and power figures! The company has brought the Macan Electric in India with the top-of-the-line Turbo, and treated with a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive system. It uses a 100 kWh battery pack, which forces the car to deliver a maximum power of up to 630 bhp and 1130 Nm of peak torque.
The company claims that the EV can touch 0-100 km/h sprint in just 3.3 seconds. Well, we have tested the claim and are fully satisfied with what the company says. When it comes to the top speed, the one sitting in the driver’s seat can open up the throttle at a maximum speed of 260 km/h.
Driving an EV feels good until and unless range anxiety does not kick in. However, with the Macan Electric, this is not the case. If you are sitting behind the wheels, you one likely to enjoy driving more, and worry less about the range as the car offers a claimed range of 591 km (WLTP).
Once fully drained, it can juiced up from 10 percent to 80 percent in less than 25 using a 270kW DC fast charger.
What’s Inside?
As you step inside, the electric Macan Turbo welcomes the occupants with an ultra-level premium-class cabin. It surely feels ahead of its time and can be considered as a perfect blend of futuristic and timeless design piece.
The cabin comes with three layout screen arrangements. A curved 12.6-inch display is fully dedicated to the driver, a robust 10.9-inch centre touchscreen is there for entertainment purposes with all the wireless car connect technology including Apple, Android, and Auto Carplay and a dedicated display for the front passenger, ensuring no one gets bored during the long journeys.
Features
It would be an injustice for the Macan if some of its notable features will not be mentioned. The list includes a new voice assistant, automatically adjustable ventilated comfortable seats, a massive panoramic sunroof, an advanced augmented-reality heads-up display, four-zone climate control, wireless charging, multiple charging sockets, electric tailgate, peddle-shifters, illuminated scuff plates, frameless doors, decent-sized frunk, and seamless over-the-air updates that make it feel both sophisticated and intuitive.
Handling
As we mentioned above we have covered a decent km in the Macan electric. The car has been driven to some of the toughest terrain as well. Where somehow it managed to offer a rooted yet comfortable driving experience. The handling feels super smooth while taking the sharp done, and lets you feel the zero body roll.
On the straight line, it gives true confidence to the driver to open up the aerator as much as possible, a big thanks to the impressive braking system and some safety features like an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), and Electronic Stability Program (ESP).
The chassis and air suspension setup puts an extra feather to its cap, allowing it to fight against any challenges on multiple terrains. While the rivals are more focused on offering an artificial steering feel in EVs, Porsche kept it natural so that the customers could feel the pleasure of driving.
Here’s What We Feel About Porsche Macan Electric
The E-Macan Turbo is more than just an electric car and surely is the future performance SUV in the segment. It is not electric, it’s electrifying. We have spent more than 48 hours in the car, did not been in the moment where our smile faded while driving. From offering a rooted driving experience to great comfort with an ultra-luxury spacious cabin to top-notch features, the EV did its job perfectly throughout its time with us.
