Honda Aims to Set Up Electric Bike Factory in India, Check Deadline

The news comes at a time when the country has been pushing battery-powered vehicles from left, right centre, asking the public to be inclined towards EVs instead of ICE.

In a move to push electrification in India, the top player in the two-wheel segment Honda is gearing up to introduce an electric motorcycle factory in the country. The news has been confirmed by the head of the Motorcycle and Power Products Electrification Business Unit, Daiki Mihara.

According to the reports, the top official confirmed that the company aims to fulfil the task by 2028. The news comes at a time when the country has been pushing battery-powered vehicles from left, right centre, asking the public to be inclined towards EVs instead of Internal Combustion Engine (ICE).

Here’s What Top Official Says

As per the details shared by Autocar India, quoting Mihara who said “We will start with a commuter bike with a 4kWh battery comparable to 100cc bikes. Exporting them is also an option. We can produce electric bikes similar to midsize bikes there,” said Mihara.

He further stated that the planned factory will be creating multiple models under different modules. Apart from this, the brand is also working with top battery manufacturers to introduce the specifications and other elements for the future production of electric models. Mihara also revealed that the brand is also promoting the secondary use of batteries, ensuring carbon neutrality.

Future Plans

Meanwhile, some reports suggested that Honda has a plan to introduce more than 29 electric two-wheeler range. The deadline for the same has been set for 2030, and will take the annual two-wheeler EV sales over 4 million units.
