Kamala Harris’ mentor and former boyfriend 90-year-old Willie Brown said if she becomes the president, ‘she will deport my a**’. This is a stock reply of Willie Brown on the question meant to be a joke, Politico’s Jonathan Martin wrote in a column. He wrote that Willie had a new reply ready this time. “Kamala may send me back to Mineola…sending me back to Texas would be a deportment”.
Willie said he was flooded by media inquiries abut Harris since President Joe Biden stepped aside endorsing Kamala Harris as the presidential candidate. The former California Assembly Speaker said he was not directly in touch with Kamala Harris but has some advice for her.
Willie said Biden should have stepped down so that the country could see Kamala Harris as the president before the election. Harris should avoid making her identity central.
‘Harris’ old lover Willie was a kingmaker’
When Willie and Harris were in a relationship in 1994, Harris was 29 and he was 60. Willie was behind jumpstarting Harris’ meteoric rise in California politics. Kamala was a young prosecutor then — she was gifted a BMW and was taken on trips to Paris and the Oscars by Willie. Willie also took Kamala Harris on a business trip to Boston where he was meeting Donald Trump.
Willie Brown was separated at that time and Kamala Harris was unmarried.
When Willie’s term as speaker was ending, he appointed Harris to the California Medical Assistance Commission — a job that paid $72,000 a year. Harris was then working in the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.
The relationship was not a secret one. Both Willie and Harris admitted of dating each other. “Yes, I may have influenced her career by appointing her to two state commissions when I was Assembly speaker. And I certainly helped with her first race for district attorney in San Francisco,” Willie wrote in 2019.
