Obama’s assessment:
He had earlier said that Biden’s re-election campaign was going to be tough. The first presidential debate will only make it tougher for the incumbent president. As per a survey conducted by The Wall Street Journal, Trump has a six-percentage point lead over Biden after the debate.

Obama has offered all assistance to Biden and the two had a call after the debate during which Obama offered to act as a sounding board. He has also accompanied Biden to two key fund-raising events in New York and Los Angeles. It was earlier reported that the two Democrats shared a good bonhomie and were in touch with each other regarding the upcoming election.
Biden’s re-election bid:
It has been reported that many of the Democrats who spoke to Obama are counting on him to persuade Biden to drop out of the presidential race. However, this may be tall task for Obama. Another media report claimed that both Biden and Obama do not share a warm relationship. This can be traced back to the time when Obama refused to support Biden’s presidential nomination in 2016. Former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton was issued a presidential nomination by the Democrats and she lost to Donald Trump.
