Former US President Donald Trump has called for President Joe Biden to undergo a drug test ahead of their upcoming debate on Thursday, June 27, alleging that his Democratic rival might use medication during the CNN debate. Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, said he was also ready to undergo a drug test.
Trump made the demand via his social media platform, Truth Social, stating, “DRUG TEST FOR CROOKED JOE BIDEN??? I WOULD, ALSO, IMMEDIATELY AGREE TO ONE!!!”
This comes amid ongoing suggestions from Trump and his allies that Biden, 81, might be medicated during the debate in Atlanta, according to the New York Post.
Trump’s demand follows earlier remarks where he accused Biden of being “as high as a kite” during his March State of the Union address and vowed to require a drug test before their debates.
At a recent Grand Old Party (GOP) dinner in Minnesota, Trump reiterated this stance, emphasising his belief that Biden would likely receive a pharmacological boost before the debate.
Referring to Biden’s recent seclusion at Camp David for debate preparation, Trump mocked, “He’s sleeping now, because they want to get him good and strong. So, a little before debate time, he gets a shot in the ass. He’ll come out all jacked up, right?,” reported the New York Post.
“I think it’s a fair question worth asking. If Biden wants to prove otherwise, why didn’t he commit to a drug test?,” Trump’s campaign spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, supported the call for a drug test.
“There is no universe in which [Biden’s] not being medicated before the debate. If he wants to dispel that, he should offer to take a drug test, but we all know he won’t do that,” Trump ally was quoted as saying by the New York Post.
In response to Trump’s allegations, Biden’s campaign has not yet indicated whether he would agree to undergo such screening.
However, campaign co-chair Mitch Landrieu dismissed Trump’s comments as mere “trash talk”, affirming Biden’s readiness for the upcoming debate.
Landrieu stated on NBC News’ “Meet the Press, Trump’s going to talk trash like that all the time because that’s what he does.”
