There is a religious fervour around and it looks like Indian gaming companies are looking to cash in on spiritual gaming. to delve into the realm of spiritual gaming. According to a report by The Economic Times, developers are looking to make the ‘temple run’.
According to the report, since the Pran Pratishtha ceremony on January 22, there has been a significant increase in downloads of Mandir-focused apps, nearly doubling their previous numbers.This surge has ignited enthusiasm among developers who see a vast market opening up for religious and spiritual-themed content in the gaming sphere. Even users who were not previously inclined towards digital gaming are now showing interest in these offerings, claims the report.
FunStop Games, a casual gaming studio backed by InfoEdge Ventures, is one of the developers looking to catch on the trend. Their Shri Ram Mandir Game app, launched on January 12, has already amassed an impressive five million downloads across various app stores.
Moreover, older games with religious themes are experiencing a resurgence in popularity amidst this wave. For instance, the Ram Mandir Darshan Game, which debuted on July 8, 2021, and boasts 100,000 downloads on the Play Store, witnessed a spike of approximately 54,000 downloads in the past 30 days alone, according to data from App Magic, an app analytics firm.
According to a report by Statista, India’s mobile gaming industry is poised for substantial growth, with revenue projected to skyrocket to US$151.60 million by the year 2024. This surge is anticipated to persist, with an annual growth rate of 7.02% from 2024 to 2027, culminating in a projected market volume of US$185.80 million by the close of 2027.
The expansion of the mobile games market is not only reflected in revenue but also in the number of users. Forecasts suggest that the user base will swell to 239.6 million by 2027. Estimates indicate that user penetration, which stands at 14.6% in 2024, is slated to climb to 16.3% by 2027.
This exponential growth trajectory underscores the evolving landscape of gaming preferences and consumption patterns among Indian consumers. With the increasing availability of affordable smartphones and expanding internet connectivity, mobile gaming has emerged as a popular form of entertainment across diverse demographics. And clearly, spiritual gaming is the flavour of the season as of now.
