CHENNAI: Imagine logging on to a virtual press meet to discuss the performance of the auto component industry and seeing the screen fill up with random scribbles and then obscene pictures. That’s exactly what happened at the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) virtual press conference on Zoom on Wednesday.
The sudden hacking caused the hosts to first react in surprised horror and then shut down the link immediately. This was followed by a fresh link for the press meet.
The conference was a briefing on the performance of the auto component sector in FY20 — a year that saw the industry battling a crippling slowdown and then the pandemic-related chaos.
When it restarted, ACMA director general Vinnie Mehta joked that his team thought he was responsible for the confusion and have so now resumed total control of the virtual meeting.
