Former South Africa captain Shaun Pollock has hailed India captain Virat Kohli’s dedication towards his fitness and revealed an incident when he was highly impressed by the 31-year-old.

Pollock has said that while commentating during India-South Africa series, he would observe that Virat Kohli would be in the gym moments after India had won a game. The 47-year-old added that Kohli would have the option to celebrate the win but his dedication to fitness was such that he would often be seen in gym after the end of match.

“When I go for commentating for the India-South Africa series, at times, we finish the games early, and people go to their hotels. I might go to the gym, and I often see Kohli at the gym, after the day’s play. After they have won, and they could be celebrating, but he is at the gym,” Shaun Pollock told Cricbuzz.

The former all-rounder also talked of highly of former India captain MS Dhoni. Pollock, who scored over 3,500 runs and took 421 wickets in Test cricket, said that Dhoni had a calm demeanour in his captaincy but he would run hard between the wickets. Shaun Pollock credited MS Dhoni for bringing intensity in Team India and reckoned that Virat Kohli has taken it to the next level.

“When Dhoni took over the captaincy, he brought an intensity to the party. He had a very calm demeanour in his captaincy. But when he got to the crease, he would be running hard between the wickets, the way he conducted himself, the way he marshalled his troops, it was very good,” Pollock said.

“Dhoni was the one who set that intensity and Kohli took it to the next level,” he further added.

MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli are currenly leading Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, respectively in the IPL 2020 in UAE.
