The UK Government has launched a consultation on using Automated Lane Keeping System (ALKS) technology for automated driving at low speeds. The technology could be on UK vehicles by spring 2021. The consultation closes on 27 October.
The call for evidence seeks views from industry on the role of the driver and proposed rules on the use of this automated system to pave the way towards a safe introduction on Great Britain roads, within the existing legal framework. The call for evidence seeks views on whether the technology should be legally defined as an automated vehicle, and on proposals to allow use of the system on roads at speeds of up to 70mph.
