The University of Pittsburgh football team will wear masks during their game against Virginia Tech on Saturday at Heinz Field.”In alignment with the recent guidance from state officials regarding the current health climate, Pitt’s football team will be appropriately outfitted for Saturday’s game with face coverings to use on the field and sideline. This is being communicated to Virginia Tech’s sports medicine staff as well,” the Pitt athletics department said Friday.Pennsylvania issued a strengthened masking order this week. Among other requirements, it calls for people to wear masks when they are “outdoors with others who are not members of a person’s household and unable to maintain sustained physical distance.”Saturday will be Senior Day, the final home game for many of the Panthers.It also marks Pitt’s return to the field after their game at Georgia Tech last week was postponed because all football activities were paused due to COVID-19 protocols.Pitt (4-4 overall, 3-4 ACC) and Virginia Tech (4-4, 4-3) are scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m.
