The Town of Stony Plain is once more looking to honour those who make the community what it is today.

In a press release published Aug. 12, officials confirmed that nominations are once again open for the community’s Ambassador of Action Business Award and the Award of Creative Excellence. Both will be presented in October at the next Greater Parkland Regional Chamber of Commerce awards banquet and serve to recognize leaders in the community and those who bring awareness to the area’s creative scene.

“Our local businesses are the driving force of Stony Plain,” Shawn McCauley, Town economic development officer said. “Nominating a local business for the Ambassador of Action Business Award is an opportunity for residents to recognize the businesses that make Stony Plain.”

The honour is presented to a local business that shows tremendous growth and support for the community and must have made an investment in their facility in the past year, created new jobs, offered new or enhanced products or services and generated public exposure. The other title is open to individuals as well as businesses and non-profits so long as they provided opportunities for public engagement, encouraged inclusion by breaking down barriers to participating in the arts or demonstrated excellence in their chosen field of work.

“It is no secret that Stony Plain is home to a diversity of artists and creative leaders,” Chantelle Laberge, town culture and tourism development officer added. “The award is a great opportunity for leaders in that industry to receive recognition and gain exposure.”

A full list of criteria and nomination forms can be found on the choose Stony Plain website. The deadline is 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 11.
