Former Florida Tech women’s basketball player Tereza Sedlakova has signed a professional contract and will be moving to Spain to join A.D. Cortegada.
Cortegada, which is based in Vilagarcía de Arousa in the province of Pontevedra, Galicia, competes in the Liga Femenina 2, the second division of the Spanish women’s basketball league. The team is looking forward to adding Sedlakova’s in-and-out game after finishing 4 for 17 during the 2019-20 campaign.
Sedlakova is coming off a successful first professional season with the Nottingham Wildcats of the Women’s British Basketball League. The Pezinok, Slovakia, native ranked second on the Wildcats roster with 6 rebounds per game in addition to averaging 6 points, 1 assist and 37.5% shooting while playing in 11 games.
“I am very excited to join the Cortegada team and play in Spain next season,” Sedlakova said. “It has been a dream of mine to play there at some point in my career because some of the best basketball players in the world are Spanish. I am also looking forward to living in Vilagarcía, because it is a small town right on the beach similar to Melbourne, which I really miss.”
Cortegada is set to open the 2020-21 season on Oct. 3 with a matchup against Fundacion Ardoi.
In her four years at Florida Tech, Sedlakova played in 108 contests and averaged 7.3 points and 4.3 rebounds. During her senior season, in 2018-19, Sedlakova averaged 10.5 points and 5.6 rebounds while shooting 45% from the field.
Sedlakova was a member of the U-20 Slovakian National Team in 2016-17, helping her team to a silver medal at the European Championships. She also represented her home country in the U-18 and U-14 levels during her playing career.
In addition to her success on the court, Sedlakova was named the 2018-19 Florida Tech Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year and graduated with a 4.0 GPA as a global business and finance major.
