College of Engineering and Technology, Akola (COETA) has emerged as a Pioneer in Engineering and Architecture Education in Western Vidarbha. It was established in the year 1983. In the 37 years of its existence, the institute has produced more than 7500 Engineers and Architects with more than 750 students securing a place in the merit list of the university. Today the institute offers undergraduate courses in, Civil, Mechanical, Chemical & Computer Science Engineering and Architecture. It also offers post graduate courses in Structural Engineering and Chemical Engineering. All the departments of the institute are recognized by the SGBA University as Research Centres for Ph. D. Spread over a sprawling campus of 10 acres, the institute is offering the best of amenities to its students with facilities like plush classrooms, state-of-the-art infrastructure, spacious and well-equipped laboratories, Wi-Fi campus, sports grounds, amphitheatre, auditorium, Music Club, Language Lab, Dedicated Placement Cell, Industry-Institute-Interaction Programs, study tours all over India.

The college strives constantly for the development of the students. As soon as the lockdown was imposed due to Covid-19, the college switched to online mode of Teaching-Learning. Online mock test for CET was organised for aspiring candidates from all over Maharashtra. This helped the students to relieve their stress and anxiety related to their preparedness for the final entrance test.

The college has been awarded an “A” Grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council, Bengaluru with a CGPA of 3.27 which is one of the highest in Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati. The institute always strives to take the student experience to Greater Heights. The alumni of the institute are spread all over the globe with some of them occupying the top most positions in diverse sectors of industry and education.

The Legacy

College of Engineering and Technology, Akola is a part of Shri Shivaji Education Society, Amravati, a public trust founded, in 1932, by the great visionary and the first agriculture minister of independent India Hon. Dr. Panjabrao alias Bhausaheb Deshmukh. Bhausaheb’s Mission was to provide educational opportunities to the rural poor and upliftment of the downtrodden.

Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh started the process for the establishment of Agriculture Universities all across the country, and gave fillip to agricultural education, agricultural research and related extension activities. He wanted to ensure that the ultimate beneficiary of all this enterprise would be the ordinary farmer.

The Society began with just one school and one hostel; but today it has grown into the biggest educational organization in Central India. It runs 302 educational institutions ranging from pre-primary to post graduate colleges covering almost all fields of formal and informal education: Arts, Science, Agriculture, Biotechnology, Commerce, Computers, Education, Engineering and Technology, Fine Arts, Horticulture, Law, Medicine, Microbiology, Physical Education, and a host of related fields.

College of Engineering and Technology, Akola is the only institution under the umbrella of Shri Shivaji Education Society which offers UG, PG and Ph. D. programs in Engineering, Technology and Architecture.

Philanthropy at its core

Following the footsteps of the Founder President, the office bearers of the society & the employees of all the institutions under its banner have always tried to give back to the society and the nation at large. Recognizing this, the Govt. of Maharashtra awarded the Dr. Babasaheb

Ambedkar ‘Dalit Mitra’ Award to Shri Shivaji Education Society, Amravati in 1993-94. Further, in the year 1999-2000 the Society was awarded the ‘Gadge Maharaj Memorial Award’ by the Govt. of Maharashtra and was declared as the “Best Administered Society”.

During the current COVID-19 Pandemic, all the employees of the society & the institutes have contributed two days of their salary to the CM Welfare Fund aggregating 1.18 crore rupees. The employees of the various institutions have provided their services to the needy during the pandemic.

The institute has been graced by eminent personalities like Padma Vibhushan Dr Anil Kakodkar, Ex Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of India; Padma Bhushan Dr. Vijay Bhatkar, the father of the Super Computer of India; Shri Sharad Pawar, Former Minister of Defense and Minister of Agriculture, Government of India and many more distinguished personalities from various institutes and industries.

Proactive for Research and Development

College of Engineering and Technology, Akola is always ahead in activities related to R & D. The institute encourages the staff as well as the students to participate in Seminars, Conferences, Technical Paper and Model Competitions. National and International Conferences along with Working Model Competitions are a regular part of the academic calendar of the institute. As a part of this process, the institute has received funding from the AICTE, New Delhi under the Modernisation and Removal of Obsolescence (MODROB) Scheme. It has also received a grant for organizing National Conference. The college has been recognized as Technology Business Incubation (TBI) Centre in collaboration with Varhad Capitals, Pune.

Regular training programs are organized for the staff under the avenues prescribed by AICTE and ISTE. Fifty percent of the regular teaching staff is holding Ph. D. degree.

Overall Development of the Student

The whole system at the institute is Student Centric. Every care is taken to groom the student into an employable engineer for the industry and a responsible & useful citizen for the nation. Special training programs are organized to sharpen the communication and soft skills of the student. This is an important component of the student’s personality and it infuses confidence. The institute has received a special grant from AICTE for establishing a Centre under Skills and Personality Development Program (SPDP) scheme.

The institute is taking big strides under the dynamic and progressive leadership of SSES, Amravati with Hon. Shri Harshvardhan Deshmukh as President and his Executive Council. All the members of the Executive Body, with years of Social Service to their credit, are tirelessly striving hard to take forward the legacy of the Founder President, Hon. Dr. Panjabrao alias Bhausaheb Deshmukh.
