Just a few miles from Downtown Greenville sits a 2,600-acre behemoth, hiding in plain sight and pumping a couple of billion dollars a year into the state economy.

History buffs may know that Greenville County once was home to Donaldson Air Force Base.

Aviation enthusiasts may be aware of an airport that isn’t GSP, or Greenville Downtown Airport either.

And others may have heard about the world’s most advanced F-16 fighter jets manufactured at Lockheed Martin.

But SCTAC, South Carolina Technology & Aviation Center?

It probably doesn’t ring a bell – though 4,300 people earn a living at the property’s 112 businesses, and about 2,000 more people work for companies that work with those businesses.

The businesses at SCTAC generate at least $2.03 billion in economic impact annually, according to a 2018 study.
