Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller insists they will not budge on their £90million asking price for Kai Havertz – and claims there are ‘no new updates’ on Chelsea‘s pursuit of the 21-year-old.
The Blues are long-term admirers of the German attacker and are hoping to bring him to Stamford Bridge this summer.
However, the Bundesliga outfit are sticking to their guns over Havertz’s price and have told any potential suitors that there will be no ‘corona discount’ for their talented playmaker.

The financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic are forcing many clubs to rethink their business models and strategies, with many dropping the asking price for players that have been put on the transfer market.
While this is the case for many, Voller insists that this isn’t the case for Havertz, who will only be allowed to leave if the price is right.
Voller told Sport Buzzer when asked for an update on a long-running transfer saga: ‘There is nothing new in this regard, and we are still very relaxed about it.

‘Of course, we would be very happy if he stayed for another year. It is clear that the departure of such a player, despite the high transfer fee, always means a loss – see Leipzig and [Timo] Werner.
‘In times of corona, it may actually be that the transfer fees have decreased for many players.
‘But corona or no corona, this is not the case with exceptional players like Havertz or Jadon Sancho. There is no corona discount for them.
‘What makes Kai Havertz so interesting is the fact that he embodies world-class in four or five positions.’
The 21-year-old’s potential arrival in London would mark yet another coup for boss Frank Lampard as he looks to build on an encouraging first season at Chelsea.

He has already signed Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and forward Timo Werner from Red Bull Leipzig as two eye-catching attacking additions.
Havertz has been coveted by elite clubs across Europe but Chelsea have caught his attention the most. He made 45 appearances for Leverkusen in the 2019-20 campaign, scoring an impressive 18 goals for the German club.
But their fifth-place finish consigned them to another season of Europa League football and the Germany international has his sights set on the Champions League.
