THE captains of Pakistan automobile sector say that they expect growth in their sector in coming months. They have made this claim while greatly increasing the prices of their vehicles over the past five months.
I am at a loss to understand how they can even think that their sales will increase with increasing prices.
The reality of the automobile sector is this, only six per cent of Pakistanis own vehicles while the country does not manufacture 100pc vehicles locally.
In fact second-hand vehicles are regularly imported and considered better then locally manufactured vehicles.
The price of vehicles in Pakistan is higher than in other subcontinent countries and their quality is much lower with no emphasis and checking of vehicle safety.
The government needs to review and audit the automobile industry and ensure that the citizens get their money’s worth.
