Earlier this month the state had reported more than 10,000 Covid-19 positive cases a day for five consecutive days till August 9, and for three consecutive days in the previous week.
Andhra’s public health bulletin on Saturday evening said 82 more persons succumbed to the infection in the 24 hours till Saturday morning, pushing the death toll in the state on account of Covid-19 to 3,796.
The number of recoveries since Friday morning stood at 8,976, taking the total number of recoveries in Andhra to 312,687 so far.
A statement from the AP Covid-19 command control room said, 62,024 samples were tested in the state in the 24 hours since Friday morning, pushing the total to 36,03,345 tests so far. This makes Andhra the fourth-highest in India after Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra in terms of the total number of samples tested.
East Godavari (1,096), and Nellore (1,038) reported new Covid-19 cases in four digits while the other 11 districts of Andhra registered fewer than 1,000 cases each.
By Saturday morning, the state has tested 67,478 samples per million persons, more than double the national average of 29,132 tests. The state’s rate of new positive cases increased to 11.49%, above the national average of 8.57%.
Andhra reported a recovery rate of 75.50%, lower than the national average of 76.47%, while the mortality rate stood at 0.92%, nearly half of the national average of 1.81%.
