Former US President Joe Biden has signed with the Los Angeles-based Creative Artists Agency (CAA), marking a return to the firm that represented him between 2017 and 2020. The signing signals a new phase in his post-presidency career. CAA is one of the biggest entertainment industry talent firms which represents actors including Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts.

Agency Confirms

Richard Lovett, co-chair of CAA, welcomed Biden back to the agency, stating, “President Biden is one of America’s most respected and influential voices in national and global affairs.” He added, “His lifelong commitment to public service is one of unity, optimism, dignity, and possibility. We are profoundly honored to partner with him again.”

Past association with CAA

During his previous collaboration with CAA, Biden published his memoir, Promise Me, Dad: A Year of Hope, Hardship, and Purpose, in 2017. The book, which focused on the loss of his eldest son, Beau, became a New York Times number one bestseller and led to his American Promise book tour. The tour was widely considered a precursor to his 2020 presidential campaign.

Hollywood plans on the cards for Joe Biden?

According to a report by the LA Times, Biden is likely to have “lucrative opportunities.” It cited a previous report noting that the last time Biden was signed to CAA, his income rose from less than $400,000 per year to more than $15 million over a two-year period thanks to his popular book and appearances.

The LA Times also reported that Biden’s son, Hunter, is also “exploring options” as he has been long followed by a documentary crew for a project backed by LA-based lawyer Kevin Morris. The report cited the younger Biden’s friend, Bobby Sager, saying Hunter “could explore paths including potentially venturing into podcasting or public speaking.”

Post-presidency plans remain unclear

Since leaving office in January, Biden has not made any public announcements about future projects. At the White House farewell, he told supporters, “We’re leaving office, we’re not leaving the fight.” While he has been seen around his Delaware home and remains in touch with former aides and associates, no book or media project has been confirmed.

CAA’s political connections

Though known for representing Hollywood celebrities, CAA has a history of working with political figures. Former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama have partnered with CAA through their production company, Higher Ground, which produced the Oscar-winning documentary American Factory. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also signed with CAA for book projects, including Hard Choices, which detailed her tenure as America’s top diplomat.

Biden’s growing family

Amid his transition from public office, Biden recently became a great-grandfather following the birth of his granddaughter Naomi’s son.
