Indian mobile subscribers get a 90-day period before which they need to recharge their number to keep the SIM active and now it is getting cheaper to do that.

TRAI has an old rule that will make it cheaper to keep your SIM active

The Indian telecom regulator has made some changes to the rules that will please prepaid users in the country. Most people know that to keep using a SIM card on their name, they need to regularly recharge their packs for up to 90 days after which their connection will be given to someone else.

But now, the regulator is making it easy and cheaper for you to keep using the same number and SIM card.

Yes, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India or TRAI has shared this update about an existing rule which will be fully adopted by the telcos in the country. You just have to pay Rs 20 per month and that will keep your SIM active without terminating the number from your name. Like we said, this is not a new rule but we could finally see this come into force and the TRAI is making sure that people are aware of these regulations rather than spending extra to continue using their SIM.

90 Day Period For Your SIM Gets Extension: How It Works

As you might be aware, a mobile number remains active as long as you keep it recharged and you have a 90 day period for which you can avoid taking a new pack after which the SIM is terminated.

However, the Rs 20 per month balance is a life saver, as it allows you to extend this period by another 30 days. So, for instance, if you don’t recharge your number for 90 days, just pay Rs 20 and get the extra period to keep the SIM active and you can do this every month to keep the SIM on your name.

Some might say Rs 20 per month is not a lot to keep a number active but this is another way for the telcos to make the extra money.

However, you must remember that the Rs 20 recharge is only going to keep the SIM active and not give you extra talk time or data usage benefits, because for that you will need an active prepaid plan from any of the telecom operators in the country.
