The Central Government has instructed the Delhi Metro to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the much-awaited extension of the Yellow Line to Narela, according to Vijender Gupta, Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly.

According to Financial Express, Gupta shared that he had written to the Prime Minister on December 27, urging the extension. He also mentioned that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) confirmed on January 6 that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) had asked for a DPR to be created for the project.

While the DMRC declined to comment, Gupta pointed out that the Delhi BJP Legislative Party, led by him, had submitted a memorandum to Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on December 6, pushing for the extension.

The Yellow Line currently links Millennium City Centre in Gurugram to Samaypur Badli in Delhi. While the extension to the Siraspur metro depot has already been approved, areas such as Siraspur, Kheda, Alipur, and Narela are still not connected to the metro network.

Gupta argued that extending the metro line from Badli-Siraspur to Narela would provide much-needed relief to millions of residents in these densely populated areas who lack proper public transport. He added that this extension would reduce traffic congestion and improve the overall use of resources.
