The new depot will likely service trains on corridor-3, running from Madhavaram Milk Colony to Siruseri Sipcot.

A new double elevated depot is set to rise in Nookampalayam, off Old Mahabalipuram Road near Sholinganallur.

This depot, located just 700 meters from Sholinganallur Lake II station on the OMR metro line, will be the third depot for the upcoming 116.1 km Phase-2 project, according to TOI.

Currently, two other depots are being built in Madhavaram and Poonamallee, scheduled to be completed between 2025 and 2028. This new depot in Nookampalayam will be similar to the one in Wimco Nagar, featuring an upper level for rainy season operations.

Expected to support trains on Corridor-3 from Madhavaram Milk Colony to Siruseri Sipcot, this depot might become operational a year or two after Phase-2 starts, as more trains will be needed to handle increased passenger numbers.

In the meantime, stabling lines at Siruseri Sipcot will park 12 to 15 trains overnight, with an elevated wash plant planned to keep them clean. Note that the originally planned depot at Siruseri was scrapped to reduce project costs from Rs 89,000 crore to Rs 63,246 crore.

The Madhavaram and Poonamallee depots will handle major and minor repairs respectively, servicing trains on Corridors 3, 4, and 5.
