Pune Metro is all set to roll out its extended service next week, with Yerawada station expected to join the network after necessary construction concludes.
Pune Metro is all set to launch the much-awaited Ruby Hall to Ramwadi stretch next week, all while bracing for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls’ election code of conduct.
Despite initial plans, Yerawada station will not be part of the initial launch, responding to demands for swift implementation from eager commuters.
The construction for the Ruby Hall to Ramwadi stretch has been completed, and safety permissions have been granted.
Originally slated for inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 19, the event was postponed, leading Pune Metro to request state government permission for a soft opening, with a formal dedication ceremony to follow. Despite expectations for an online inauguration on February 25, the event did not happen, as reported by Hindustan Times.
Anticipating the imminent election code of conduct, Pune Metro is now set to inaugurate the stretch next week, possibly on March 6. Atul Gadgil, the director (works) of the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro), confirmed preparations for the inauguration, stating it would be conducted via video conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The expanded metro service, initially launched on August 1 last year, spans a 9.7 km route from Vanaz to Ruby Hall, with extensions yet to be operational. The forthcoming Ruby Hall to Ramwadi stretch, covering 5.5 km and featuring stations like Bund Garden, Kalyani Nagar, and Ramwadi, marks a crucial addition to the 15.7 km Vanaz to Ramwadi route.
However, commuters should note that when passenger operations commence on the Ruby Hall to Ramwadi stretch, Yerawada station will not be operational. Due to delayed construction of one entry-exit point, the station’s opening is deferred until completion, expected in about a month.
Atul Gadgil emphasized, “We decided not to open Yerawada station for passengers on the Ruby Hall to Ramwadi stretch. We will open it after completion of the second entry-exit point of Yerawada station.”
With four stations along the Ruby Hall to Ramwadi stretch, the excitement among commuters is palpable. While the Yerawada stop might be delayed, the journey from Bund Garden to Ramwadi promises to be a significant step forward for Pune’s metro network.
