The Dwarka Expressway, spanning 29 kilometres, is an important infrastructure project linking Haryana and Delhi.
In a move toward improving connectivity between Delhi and Gurugram, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has successfully completed the construction of a link road, as part of the Dwarka Expressway project.
This accomplishment is expected to make travel easier between the two cities, avoiding traffic congestion and signals. While the eight lane highway will majorly benefit residents and travellers, the additional link road will further improve overall commuting experience.
Initial preparations for the opening focus on two sections of the Expressway, which is Package 2, linking Dwarka Sector 21 in Delhi to the Gurugram border and Package 3 that covers Delhi-Gurugram border to the Basai Railway Overbridge, as reported by Delhi Breakings.
Meanwhile, linking Package 2 and Package 3 is crucial for the highway to work well, making it easier for people in Gurugram to reach Dwarka Sector 21 through a special road. On the other hand, news is floating around that the Dwarka Expressway will be open to everyone soon and there’s a chance that Prime Minister Narendra Modi might be the one to kick off the long awaited project.
Even though there is no exact day, sources claim that the highway could open before the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections. Gurugram’s MP, Rao Inderjit Singh, has dropped hints that the grand opening might happen in the first week of March.
The Dwarka Expressway, spanning 29 kilometres, is an important infrastructure project linking Haryana and Delhi. While the 18.9 kilometres long stretch falls under Haryana, the remaining 10.1 kilometres is in Delhi. The expressway starts from Shiv-Murti on National Highway 8 and concludes its journey near the Kherki Daula toll plaza. Reportedly, after the inauguration, commuters will be able to travel between Delhi-Gurugram in just 25-30, which currently takes over 1 hour.
As per Indian Express, Gurugram Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav earlier said, “We had written to the NHAI, requesting it to open the Haryana stretch (of the expressway) as this would help commuters significantly. Though we did not get any response in writing, we were informed about the project’s progress. Minor works such as the installation of street lights, tiles, and thermoplastic road marking are yet to be done. This would not take over 15 days, and the tentative date for the inauguration is either February-end or within the first two weeks of March.”
With a value of around Rs 9,000 Crore, the project will be finished soon and the last two sections are expected to be completed by the end of February, while the initial two will be completed by the end of June. This project features tunnels, underpasses, grade roads, elevated roads and even flyovers above flyovers. Interestingly, it has Delhi’s broadest 8 lane tunnel, extending over 3.6 kilometres.
