isro: Isro’s weather forecasting and disaster warning satellite to be launched on February 17

The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) on Thursday announced that the launch of GSLV-F14 carrying INSAT-3DS, a meteorological and disaster warning satellite, is scheduled at 5:35 pm from Sriharikota on Saturday.

It is designed for enhanced meteorological observations and monitoring of land and ocean surfaces for weather forecasting and disaster warning.

The primary objectives of the mission are to monitor Earth’s surface, carry out oceanic observations and its environment in various spectral channels of meteorological importance, and to provide the vertical profile of various meteorological parameters of the atmosphere.

It also aims to provide data collection and data dissemination capabilities from its data collection platforms. It will also aim to provide satellite aided search and rescue services. This will be the 16th flight of GSLV. The mission is fully funded by the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES).
