Central Govt fast-tracks Delhi & Bangalore Metro projects, aiming for seamless city connectivity & economic growth nationwide.
The Central government has accelerated the Rithala-Bawana-Narela–Kundli urban transit metro corridor of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in the NCR region.
The Commerce and Industry Ministry announced on Friday that the project was fast-tracked during the National Planning Board meeting to enhance multi-modal integration with bus and rail stations under the PM Gati Shakti master plan, as reported by Times Now.
Similarly, Phase-3 of the Bangalore Metro Rail Project covering 44.65 km with two corridors from JP Nagar to Kempapura along ORR and from Hosahalli to Kadabagere along Magadi road has also received a speed boost.
The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is spearheading the implementation of these projects, aiming to alleviate road congestion, reduce travel time, save fuel costs, ensure reliable operation, and decrease vehicular emissions and pollution.
The National Planning Board has emphasized the need for sufficient transition infrastructure in areas involving inter-modal interfaces for these projects. The meeting highlighted that these initiatives will play a crucial role in nation-building by integrating various modes of transport, offering significant socio-economic benefits, and contributing to the overall development of the region.
Other projects discussed in the meeting include initiatives from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, such as the four-laning of a 45 km stretch of NH-66 in Goa and the development cum upgradation of the Mawlyngkhung – Panchgram road in Meghalaya and Assam. Both projects are expected to have broad economic impacts, including reduced logistics costs, decreased traffic congestion, and increased average traffic speed.
Additionally, a railway project focusing on the construction of a bulb line at Nabinagar (Ankorha) spanning approximately 17.49 km in Bihar’s Aurangabad district was examined.
The construction of the ROR bulb line is anticipated to result in the grade separation of two railway lines, leading to reduced train detention, decreased transit time, increased logistics efficiency for coal movement to the Nabinagar power plant, and enhanced section capacity utilization of main lines.
