Here’s a job description to have on your CV: driver for Tesla to test out its famous ‘Autopilot’ features on Indian roads. This can now be possible as Elon Musk’s company is hiring for this position in New Delhi and Mumbai ahead of its launch in the country.

The job involves joining Tesla’s vehicle data collection team as a ‘prototype vehicle operator’ and be responsible for driving an engineering vehicle for extended periods, conducting dynamic audio and camera data collection for testing and training purposes.

“This role requires a high level of flexibility, strong attention to detail, excellent driving skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment,” Tesla said in its advertisement.

The job will also entail driving an engineering vehicle for extended hours in a designated area for data collection — five to eight hours daily — start or stop recording devices, analyse and report on the quality of data collected during each shift, and provide feedback and suggest process improvements to optimise data collection. The candidate must have familiarity with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Autonomous Driving Systems (ADS).

Tesla’s Autopilot is an ADAS that enhances safety and convenience behind the wheel. Additionally, with Full Self-Driving (supervised), one can drive a Tesla vehicle almost anywhere making lane changes, select forks to follow your navigation route, navigate around other vehicles and objects and make left and right turns under one’s active supervision.

According to Tesla, when used properly, Autopilot and FSD (Supervised) reduce overall workload as a driver. “Each new Tesla vehicle is equipped with multiple external cameras and powerful vision processing to provide an additional layer of safety. All vehicles built for the North American market now use our camera-based Tesla Vision to deliver Autopilot features, rather than radar. Autopilot comes standard,” Tesla says.
