BMC issues show cause notice to Mithun Chakraborty over alleged 'illegal construction'; warns structure will be 'demolished'

Actor and politician Mithun Chakraborty has come under the scanner after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued a show cause notice for allegedly constructing an unauthorised ground-floor structure in Erangle village, located in Malad’s Madh area.According to a report on Free Press Journal, the notice, served under Section 351(1A) of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (MMC) Act, directs Chakraborty to justify the construction within seven days of the notice dated May 10. If a satisfactory explanation is not provided, the civic body has warned that the structure will be demolished at the owner’s risk, and legal action may follow. This move comes as part of the BMC’s larger crackdown on illegal constructions in the Madh region. Officials have identified 101 unauthorised structures in the area, including bungalows reportedly built using forged documents. The civic body has set a target to remove all such illegal structures by the end of May.According to the reports, BMC sources stated that a recent inspection near Hira Devi Mandir revealed that two one-plus-mezzanine-storey buildings, one ground-floor structure, and three temporary units were made of bricks, wood, glass, and AC sheets. These were reportedly constructed without proper authorisation from the relevant authorities. An official added that violations under Section 475A of the MMC Act may invite penalties and could even lead to imprisonment. “These structures were erected without approval from the competent authority, and hence notices have been issued,” said the official.Responding to the allegations, Mithun Chakraborty denied the claims. In a statement reported by the portal, he said, “I have no unauthorised structures. Notices have been sent to many, and we are sending our replies.”
