If you’ve noticed that your Pixel 7a appears swollen, you’re not alone. Google has officially acknowledged that some Pixel 7a unit have face battery swelling issue. According to a recently published support page, the tech giant confirmed that affected smartphones may face issues such as charging problems, rapid battery drain, or bulging batteries.
In response, Google has introduced an extended repair program that offers free battery replacements or other compensation. However, eligibility for the program will depend on factors such as your location and whether your device is still under warranty.
Pixel 7a: Signs of Battery Swelling
Some Pixel 7a phones “may experience unexpected battery swelling,” according to Google’s support page. The company provides a list of signs that you can use to determine whether this problem affects your Pixel 7a.
- An abnormally enlarged or thicker Pixel 7a body
- The back of the device is protruding or detaching.
- The battery on the phone is dying quite quickly.
Pixel 7a: Check eligibility for battery replacement
Google may offer the “Impacted Devices” a free battery replacement or another kind of concession. The latter depends on the warranty status of your device and your country.
To verify your eligibility for the free repair program, follow these steps:
- Visit Google’s help page
- Verify the Gmail address you used to register the specific Pixel 7a
- Enter the device’s IMEI number. Google may ask you additional questions to confirm the issue with the battery.
According to the company, your device will also be physically inspected after this online check. Keep in mind that there are some requirements. Your device will not be eligible for this offer if it has been exposed to sharp objects, liquid damage, or extreme force.
Likewise, you will be charged if the device has damage that is not covered by warranty, such as a cracked display or cover glass. Google will let you know the approximate cost ahead of time so you may choose whether to have the gadget fixed or sent back.

- United Kingdom
- Germany
- Japan
- Singapore
If you’re eligible for a battery replacement for your Pixel 7a but choose not to opt for it, or if the service isn’t available in your region, Google may offer alternative compensation. This includes either a $200 payout (Rs 17,000 approx) or a $300 discount coupon to purchase another Pixel device. However, it’s worth noting that these compensation options are not available to users in the US and India.
