A directive from Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao has asked all the road repair works within the TMC area to be completed by May 20.

The Thane-Ghodbunder Road in Mumbai will have a special traffic block in effect from today until Tuesday, April 29, according to the directives issued by Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao. The Municipal Commissioner underwent a thorough inspection of ongoing road repair works across the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) area before issuing the order.
Joining hands with authorities from TMC, Public Works Department, Metro authorities, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) and Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the civic commissioner paved the way to facilitate essential patchwork repairs at Gaimukh Ghat and Majivada Bridge.
The authorities wish to leave no stone unturned in Monsoon preparedness, aiming to prevent potholes that form during the rains in the city and cause a heavily disrupted traffic flow. The directives command officials working at the Ghodbunder Road to complete their work and get the road opened for traffic by May 20 with the monsoon expected to hit the city in June. Projects that can’t be completed before the monsoons will be commenced only after the rainy season is done.
Inspections were held at the Eastern Express Highway, Kapurbawdi Junction, Ghodbunder Road, service roads and Gaimukh Ghat under Rao’s supervision. Present alongside were Commissioner Prashant Rode, City Engineer Prashant Sonagra, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Pankaj Shirsat and Metro Superintendent Engineer Abhijeet Disikar among other officials.
The ongoing water pipeline works near the service road adjacent to Jupiter Hospital on the Eastern Express Highway were also inspected, apart from the Metro works at Kapurbawdi Junction and the Metro and water pipeline projects from the petrol pump located near the Cinewonder Mall to Nalpada Junction.
Rao confirmed that works conducted at the Ghodbunder Road are being inspected every four weeks to ensure smooth pre-Monsoon completion, with TMC, PWD, Metro, MMRDA, MSEDCL and the traffic police monitoring the situation together.
The Cadbury Junction to Gaimukh stretch was also inspected a few days back and the works, including road concretisation, sewer-cleaning, laying of water pipelines and replacement of sewage lines, are progressing smoothly and will be completed by May 20.
