WhatsApp is testing the motion photos support with Android beta users in the last few weeks and should soon come to iOS as well.
Motion photos are available on select Android phones and iPhones
WhatsApp could finally bring support for motion photos which many Android phones have offered for a long time. Motion photos are basically photos that convert into a short clip with motion when you take a regular photo and have the feature enabled for your phone’s camera.
The messaging app is internally testing support for this version on Android, as reported by WaBetaInfo recently. For iPhone users Apple calls it Live Photos but it seems the current tests on WhatsApp are limited to Android.
Motion Photos In WhatsApp: Why Now?
Motion photos are definitely going mainstream which makes it easily available to a wider audience and it seems WhatsApp now sees the scope to make it compatible on the messaging app. The tipster spotted the feature in the latest WhatsApp Android beta 2.25.8.12 version which should be visible if you have access to the beta version.
The support for motion photos will automatically make it available in the Gallery folder when you want to share with a contact. Currently, you can only see JPG and PNG file formats in this tab. We’ll keep an eye out for the beta update which brings motion photos support to more users on Android.
In other WhatsApp news, Pavel Durov, founder, Telegram feels the Meta-owned platform is nothing but a cheap, watered-down version of his messaging app. Durov has always been critical of WhatsApp and over the years, shared his opinion of how the messaging app has been copying features of his platform, that too with the help of billions from the Mark Zuckerberg-run tech entity. He even says that most of the Telegram features are copied by WhatsApp.
