Android apps frequently become easy targets for hackers as Google’s security checks are tight but their policies allow them to add malicious functions later.

Android apps are vulnerable to hackers but some of them can steal your data

Dangerous Android apps with millions of downloads from the Google Play Store have been taken down by the company and users are being warned against using them. More than 300 apps have been found culpable of bypassing the stringent Android 13 security features, which makes it easy for users to trust them, purely because they are installing it from a genuine source.

But when apps indulge in wrongful practices, and try to steal personal data as well as your money, user attention and caution is much needed.

Android Apps Security Issues Persist

Google repeatedly says that its App store security has become stronger and it blocks most of the dangerous or fake apps. However, the list of 330 apps discovered by security firm BitDefender suggests otherwise, even though most of them have now been removed from the Play Store.

The sophistication of hackers these days allows them to develop apps that can not only mimic the original ones but even hide in plain sight without raising an alarm. And that is where general users find it hard to tell if your device has been targeted or not.

The firm also explained that while getting checked for any issues with Google, these apps functioned normally and gradually these hackers added malicious features to the apps that let them do the dirty work in the background. These suspected apps were even able to get hold of your passwords and credit card details, which is never a good sign.

Dangerous Android Apps: Delete Them Now

The biggest issue with these attacks is that the apps generally offer basic and useful purposes. The security firm says these malicious apps offered features like expense tracking, QR scanning, health tracking and more.

– AquaTracker

– ClickSave Downloader

– Scan Hawk

– Water Time Tracker Be More

– TranslateScan

These are some of the popular apps with over 1 million downloads that were flagged by the security experts. The firm also pointed out that the bad actors got these apps published on the Play Store between October 2024 and January 2025.

Google has reportedly confirmed that none of these apps are now available on the Play Store. However, if you have installed any of these apps on your device, we highly advise you to delete them now.
