Gujarat’s 109-kilometre Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway is almost finished, with 91 percent of construction completed.
This Rs 4,500 crore project was expected to open by the end of January, as per Knocksense. It is being said that this will improve connections between Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar, and Dholera, India’s first greenfield smart city.
At present, the journey of 169 km between Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar takes more than three hours. The new expressway will shorten this distance to 141 km, cutting travel time to just 1 hour and 45 minutes. The journey between Ahmedabad and Dholera will also be much quicker, dropping from 2 hours 15 minutes to just 40-45 minutes.
Beyond reducing travel time, the expressway is expected to play a key role in Gujarat’s economic development. With better access to Dholera, businesses are likely to invest in the region, driving industrial growth. The expressway is a crucial part of Dholera’s smart city expansion, strengthening infrastructure and attracting investors.
Route and Key Locations
- The expressway starts from Sardar Patel Ring Road near Sarkhej in Ahmedabad and extends to Dholera SIR.
- It passes through important locations, including the upcoming Dholera International Airport at Navagam, improving regional connectivity.
This expressway is part of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), a major infrastructure project designed to boost industrial activity, attract investment, and drive economic growth in Gujarat, especially around Dholera SIR.
