This project includes about 12 metro lines, two sea bridges, three connectors, and several flyovers and routes. It aims to reduce traffic and offer an alternative to local trains. The Detailed Project Report will be ready in eight months
In a relief to people in Mumbai suffering from traffic jams, Kalyan, Dombivli, and citizens residing beyond Kalyan will soon have a direct route to Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. A new expressway is in the pipeline. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has begun planning this new route.
The MMRDA is undertaking development work spanning over 6,000 square kilometres in the Greater Mumbai region. This ambitious project encompasses approximately 12 metro lines, two sea bridges, three connectors, various connecting routes, and flyovers. However, commuters travelling to Mumbai from this area currently rely solely on local trains. To address this, the MMRDA plans to construct a direct route, providing an alternative mode of transportation.
The MMRDA has invited tenders for the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed expressway. This expressway aims to provide a limited-access road link from Badlapur, Ambernath, Ulhasnagar, Kalyan, and Dombivli to Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. The road will be built to national expressway standards. The contractor responsible for preparing the DPR will determine the final width of the expressway.
Meanwhile, the appointed contractors will be responsible for conducting various studies, including land acquisition requirements and surveys. The tender stipulates that the DPR must be finalised within eight months of contract award.
