Pulse Energy’s Paybox aims to address this by offering an affordable solution, using homegrown technologies like UPI and UEI to ensure broader accessibility.

By using UPI, Paybox promotes financial inclusion while supporting technological progress.

Pulse Energy has unveiled an app-free solution for electric vehicle (EV) charging, making it easier for users worldwide.

Having said that, the new ‘Paybox’ terminals will enable Charge Point Operators to easily adopt this technology at their stations, supporting 2W, 3W, and 4W vehicles. Initially, Paybox will be rolled out in Bangalore and Mumbai, with plans to expand nationwide.

Existing payment terminals are often costly, sometimes more expensive than the EV chargers themselves, which can slow down EV adoption in India. Paybox offers a more affordable alternative, leveraging homegrown payment technologies like UPI and UEI, ensuring wider access for users. Charging networks can pre-book Paybox terminals on Pulse Energy’s website.

By using UPI, Paybox promotes financial inclusion while supporting technological progress.

These terminals are also future-proof, with plans for integration with Fastag and NFC tap-and-pay options. Currently, around 20,000 EV chargers across India require users to download different apps to start a charging session. With Paybox, more people, especially those not familiar with apps, can easily start charging.

Akhil Jayaprakash, Founder of Pulse Energy, said, “For network operators, adding a terminal is going to be an additive move over and above their existing efforts.  Our goal is to surpass 5,000 transactions per day through Paybox by the end of H1 2025″.

Paybox supports India’s FAME initiative (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles), which promotes EV infrastructure.

By offering terminals at one-third the cost of international payment systems, Paybox combines affordability and accessibility, empowering India’s transition to sustainable mobility.
