Once the plan is approved, DMRC will fast-track the metro extension project. This will offer significant benefits to Noida and Greater Noida residents and air travelers by simplifying connectivity between the two airports
The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has formulated a comprehensive plan to connect Noida International Airport with Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI).
Preparations have begun to connect the Golden Line Metro track from Aerocity to Kalindi Kunj. Currently, this line runs from Aerocity to Tughlakabad, but extending it to Kalindi Kunj will provide direct connectivity to the Botanical Garden Metro Station. This extension will benefit thousands of passengers, offering them greater convenience and reduced travel times.
According to the proposal submitted by DMRC Chief Project Manager Shiv Om Dwivedi, a 5 km elevated metro track will be constructed between Tughlakabad and Kalindi Kunj. The extension proposes two new metro stations: Sarita Vihar and Madanpur Khadar.
An estimated Rs 950 crore will be spent on the construction of a 5 km long track. The DMRC has requested this budget from the Yamuna Development Authority. The DMRC argues that connecting the Golden Line to Kalindi Kunj will provide a link to the Magenta Line, further enhancing passenger convenience.
DMRC asserts that the current construction project can be completed within a three-year timeframe. This expedited timeline aims to streamline travel between Noida, Greater Noida, and Delhi IGI Airport. However, the proposed 72.4 km Namo Bharat Metro route, intended to connect to Noida International Airport, is anticipated to require a minimum of six years for completion.
Botanical Garden Metro Station currently connects the Magenta Line and the Blue Line. The Magenta Line runs from Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden via Kalindi Kunj. The line consists of 25 stations, with 15 underground and 10 elevated.
The proposal has been submitted to the government to enhance connectivity between Noida International Airport and Delhi’s IGI Airport. Upon approval, the DMRC will expedite the commencement of this metro extension project. This development is expected to significantly benefit residents of Noida and Greater Noida, as well as air travellers, by streamlining travel between the two airports.
