Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated a 13-km stretch of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), connecting Sahibabad in Uttar Pradesh to New Ashok Nagar in Delhi.

This marks the arrival of the Namo Bharat trains in Delhi, further expanding the RRTS network.

According to Hindustan Times, the new section makes the 55-km RRTS corridor, stretching from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South, fully operational. With 11 stations along the route, passenger services are set to begin at 5 pm, with trains running every 15 minutes. Fares range from Rs 150 for a standard coach to Rs 225 for a premium coach.

This development follows the inauguration of the 17-km priority section between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot in October 2024.

The newly opened 13 km includes a 6 km underground stretch, with Anand Vihar station being a major highlight. Anand Vihar connects the Blue and Pink Lines of the Delhi Metro, a railway station, and a bus terminal, making it an essential hub.

This is also the first time Namo Bharat trains will operate in an underground section within Delhi. The New Ashok Nagar RRTS station will serve as an interchange with the Blue Line of the Delhi Metro.

With this launch, Delhi is now directly connected to Meerut, reducing travel time by a third. The journey from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South now takes under 40 minutes, providing a much faster and efficient travel option.

The entire 82-km Namo Bharat corridor connects Sarai Kale Khan in New Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut, with 16 Namo Bharat stations and nine Meerut Metro stations, transforming regional transit for commuters.
