CES 2025 in Las Vegas is just around the corner and the first big tech event of the year will have a lot of exciting new gadget launches.
Lenovo could introduce a new portable gaming consoles at the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next month. The Linux-based operating system known as SteamOS, which runs on the Value Steam Deck console, is anticipated to power one of these new gaming devices. A lot more SteamOS-powered technology may be on the horizon, as CES 2025 is just a few weeks away.
Lenovo is expected to release a new Legion Go S portable gaming console that runs SteamOS, according to a report by The Verge. Images of the upcoming Lenovo Legion portable gaming consoles have been leaked online. Only the black model of the Legion Go S is anticipated to have the Steam button. As per the report, Lenovo might provide Windows on one model and SteamOS on another as part of a multi-OS strategy.
Valve stated earlier this year that it is aiming to support SteamOS on handheld consoles made by third parties, such as ASUS ROG Ally devices. The Lenovo Legion Go seems to have been added to that list. Moreover, Lenovo reportedly has a larger Legion Go handheld console in the works, in addition to the Legion Go S. With its detachable gamepad design, the new device will be similar to the previous model that was released earlier this year.
Nevertheless, it is anticipated that the revised Legion Go will use an OLED display module in place of the 8.8-inch IPS LCD touchscreen that was present in the previous model. Additionally, it notes that the larger device lacks the Steam button, suggesting that the Legion Go S model will be the only one with SteamOS in the upcoming series.
So far, PC manufacturers such as Lenovo, Asus, and MSI have opted for Windows-based handhelds, but as consumer tolerance with Windows on tiny screens wears thin and Microsoft’s work in enhancing the experience slows, OEMs appear to be seeking a better alternative.
The CES 2025 will take place in Las Vegas from January 7 where we will most likely see the new-range of AI products, including new laptops and other PC devices.
