The Uttar Pradesh government has announced that seven toll booths leading to Prayagraj will be toll-free for the entire 45-day duration of Mahakumbh 2025

As the dates for the Mahakumbh approach, authorities of Prayagraj district are making comprehensive preparations to ensure the success of this momentous event. Nearly 40 crore devotees are expected from across India and abroad for the holy bath at the confluence of the Yamuna, Ganga, and Saraswati rivers.
Amidst the ongoing mega-scale preparations, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced the waiver of tolls at all booths leading to Prayagraj during the Mahakumbh.
Toll taxes can often be burdensome for car owners. However, the Yogi Adityanath government has decided to waive these fees at seven toll booths in the state during the Mahakumbh festival. This ensures that no charges will be levied on vehicles traversing these routes.
These seven toll booths, situated in different districts, witness thousands of vehicles daily. For the duration of the Mahakumbh, vehicles passing through these tolls will not be charged. This decision aims to facilitate the anticipated influx of devotees attending the event, which commences in January.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has also initiated preparations for this initiative.
Toll Exemption For 45 Days
According to information from the Uttar Pradesh government, the Mahakumbh will span 45 days, during which the seven toll plazas in Uttar Pradesh will remain toll-free. The toll exemption will be in effect from January 13 and will continue until February 26. During this period, individuals entering Prayagraj through these routes will not be required to pay toll charges.
List of Toll Booths Made Free
Seven toll plazas located in various directions and districts leading to Prayagraj will be toll-free. These include:
- Handia toll plaza on the Varanasi road
- Andhiyari toll plaza on the Lucknow highway
- Umapur toll plaza on the Chitrakoot road
- Ganne toll plaza on the Rewa highway
- Mungeri toll plaza on the Mirzapur road
- Mauaima toll plaza on the Ayodhya highway
Vehicles Eligible for Free Entry
It is important to note that not all vehicles will be exempt from toll charges. According to NHAI, only private vehicles will be eligible for toll-free access. Commercial vehicles transporting goods such as steel bars, sand, cement, or electronic items will still be subject to toll charges.
This decision to waive toll fees for private vehicles was made by the central government following a request from the Uttar Pradesh government.
