YouTube is trying new ways to bring people to use Shorts and having original content with new style is one of them.
Google is currently testing an AI-powered feature for YouTube Shorts that allows creators to ‘restyle’ licensed audio tracks to fit multiple styles or genres. The new feature is part of its Dream Track Experiment that enables select creators to customise a limited number of official songs made available by music partners.
The tool allows content creators to customise songs by describing the desired modification, such as changing the music genre. YouTube’s AI then creates a 30-second soundtrack for the creator’s short videos, using the original vocals and lyrics.
Google shared that these customised soundtracks will have clear attribution to the original music source through the Short itself and the Shorts audio pivot page and will also mention that the new track was restyled with AI. This approach protects the rights of original music composers while providing video makers with new artistic opportunities.
The new upgrade from the tech giant allows for greater soundtrack customisation within Shorts, aiming to increase creator flexibility and viewer engagement. However, it remains unclear which songs can be remixed or which music label YouTube is collaborating with for this new upgrade.
The Dream Track Experiment has been under development since last year, which initially allowed a few creators to generate soundtracks using AI-generated voices of artists who have agreed to participate in the experiment such as Alec Benjamin, Charlie Puth, Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, John Legend, Papoose, Sia, T-Pain and Troye Sivan.
Recently, several reports suggested that YouTube is also testing a new feature for Shorts, the AI-enhanced comment reply suggestion, which would allow creators to respond to the public in their preferred tone and style. This optional feature shows AI-generated suggested responses in the Comments area of the Studio and YouTube mobile apps.
In other news, several recent reports suggested that the tech giant is working on a YouTube Premium Lite, that will offer an ad-free experience to the users while providing a budget-friendly alternative to the standard premium subscription. It is currently being tested in several countries and priced around half the cost of the regular YouTube Premium plan.
