Zomato co-founder and chief public officer Akruti Chopra has stepped down after 13 years at the helm. The company disclosed his resignation in a regulatory filing dated September 27, 2024. Chopra, one of the pioneers of the food delivery giant, has played a pivotal role in the growth of the company.
“Deepi, As discussed, formally sending in my resignation effective today, September 27, 2024. It’s been an incredibly enriching journey over the past 13 years. Thank you for everything. I’m always a call away. Wishing you and Eternal, the very best,” Chopra wrote in her exit mail, which was uploaded on the stock exchange.
Chief Executive Officer
Akriti Chopra started her career at Zomato in November 2011, where she started as a Senior Manager in Finance and Operations. Over the years, he held important roles, including vice president of finance and chief financial officer (CFO). In October 2020, he transitioned to Head of Community Development and was later appointed Chief People Officer (CPO) in June 2021. Before his move to Zomato, Chopra worked in the tax and legal functions at PwC

After 13 years at Zomato, Akriti Chopra has stepped down to pursue new opportunities outside the company. In a heartfelt email to Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal, she expressed his appreciation for time with the company, saying, “Thank you for everything that has been an incredibly rich journey in the past 13 years. I always make a call.”
Series of leadership changes at Zomato
Chopra’s resignation follows other celebrity exits from Zomato. In January 2023, Gunjan Patidar, co-founder and chief technology officer, stepped down after more than a decade with the company. Similarly, in November 2022, another co-founder, Mohit Gupta, resigned in 2020, promoted from his role as CEO of Zomato’s food delivery business to co-founder.
