Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal 1, which stopped all the operations due to a canopy collapse, is again back into the business. The airport has kick-started the flight operation at the terminal from today onwards.

The news has been confirmed by the Ministry of Civil Aviation on Twitter. It has shared a post that reads “The Terminal 1 at Delhi airport is now Open! From check-in to departure, we’ve taken convenience to new heights.”

Cause of No Operations

Delhi’s T1 was not operational for over 50 days as it has witnessed a massive damage in roof due to heavy rain on June 28. The incident killed one cab driver and injured a few people at the sight.

Now, the management has repaired the terminal and made it accessible to the public. It will operate all the flight operations of Indigo and Spicejet.

As per the details shared by the Mint, quoting an airport official who said, “The part, including the canopy that had collapsed in June, is still blocked. This will impact a few check-in counters. However, the new building which was inaugurated in March will resume operations gradually.”

Busiest Airport Globally

Meanwhile, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport is considered as one of the busiest airports worldwide. It has been reported that the airport handled over 73.7 million passengers in FY24. The number has been grown up to 12.8 percent compared to last financial year
