Apple is working on an affordable Vision Pro variant that could focus on less premium features and appeal to more buyers.
Apple is reportedly planning to expand its wearable devices lineup and is working on an affordable version of Apple’s Vision Pro headset which is likely to be unveiled next year. As per a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company is looking into smart glasses as a potential future product, with the aim of developing a more lightweight and wearable AR experience compared to the previously launched Vision Pro headset.
The Apple Vision Pro headset, announced at the WWDC last year, was priced at USD 3,499 (Around Rs 2.94 Lakh) and faced massive backlash for its high cost. Despite that Apple remains committed to expanding its presence in the augmented and virtual reality space. The company is expected to release a more budget friendly version of Vision Pro in 2025.
However, the exact specifications and pricing of the affordable version are not yet known. Earlier in June it was reported that the cheaper version of the Apple Vision Pro might cost between USD 1,500 (Around Rs 1.26 Lakh) to USD 2,000 (around Rs 1.68 Lakh).
Apart from this, the report suggests that the Cupertino-based tech giant is also planning to launch Apple Smart Glasses, augmented reality-focused glasses similar to the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses. However, the launch date of the same is not yet announced, but an earlier report suggested that the company might introduce the device in 2027.
Also, reportedly a second-generation Apple Vision Pro is also under development. It is said to receive several additional advancements, including a faster processor and improvements to the external cameras.
In other news, Apple is reportedly planning to unveil the much-awaited iPhone 16 series (iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max) around September 10, the same time when the iPhone 15 was launched.
Rumours suggest that for iPhone 16 the company is expected to switch to a vertical camera layout, similar to the previous iPhone X or iPhone 12, in favour of the diagonal layout of its predecessor. The new layout is expected to help the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus capture spatial video. Also, it is rumored to be replacing the mute button on the standard iPhone 16 models with the Action Button, which was introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro last year.
