Ohio Senator JD Vance is one of the top contenders to be US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s Vice-President. In a recent interview with Fox News, Vance discussed his chances of becoming Trump’s Vice President. He also revealed how his wife, Usha Chilukuri Vance, a Hindu, encouraged him in search of his Christian faith.
Vance has been married to Usha Chilukuri, his former Yale Law School classmate, since 2014. They have three children and have lived in San Francisco for most of their lives, according to a media report.
The Republican senator from Ohio was brought up as a protestant but by 2016, he had started to consider converting strongly to Catholicism. Finally, in 2019, he was baptised and confirmed in a church ceremony at St Gertrude Priory in Cincinnati, Ohio, according to The American Conservative magazine.
Vance has often said that Catholic theology has had an important impact on his political views. He has now revealed how his wife, a Hindu, helped him in his religious quest.
JD VANCE INTERVIEW ON HINDU WIFE’S SUPPORT FOR HIS FAITH
A video has been uploaded on X by Mary Margaret Olohan, who wrote, “JD Vance describes how his wife Usha, who is Hindu, encouraged and supported him in his search for his own Christian faith.” The video is a 54-second clip from Vance’s latest Fox News interview. Olohan is a journalist with The Daily Signal.
“I was never baptised. I was raised Christian but never baptised. I was first baptised in 2018. Usha was actually raised non-Christian. She is actually not Christian. But I remember when I started to re-engage with my own faith, Usha was very supportive.” Vance told Fox News in the latest interview.
The interviewer asked Usha herself why she was so supportive. She gave three reasons.
“I did grow up in a religious household. My parents are Hindu. That is one of the reasons why they made such good parents. That made them very good people. And I think I have seen the power of that in my own life. And I knew that JD was searching for something. This just felt right for him,” said Usha Chilukuri Vance.
She also said that they as a couple also agree on family life and how to raise their children.
“And the answer really is, we just talk a lot,” she concluded.
JD VANCE’S LIFE BEFORE BEING AN OHIO SENATOR
Vance was a venture capitalist, but he was a staunch supporter of working-class Americans in Ohio.
“The US Senate needs someone who knows what it’s like to live in a left-behind community, not a career politician who has done nothing for the people of Ohio,” reads the Senator’s website.
He was elected to the US Senate in 2022 and represents the Ohio state. Whether he becomes the Vice President to Trump is yet to be seen, but he has truly found his faith in Christianity with the help of his wife, Usha.
