Maharashtra still tops FDI charts but inflow dips 15%

MUMBAI: Though Maharashtra continues to be the top destination for foreign direct investment (FDI), its quantum has slid 15% with inflows of Rs 1 lakh crore for 2023-24 as against Rs 1.18 lakh crore in 2022-23 and Rs 1.14 lakh crore in 2021-22, reported.
As far as the MSME sector is concerned, up to Jan 9 this year, 33.07 lakh MSMEs were registered on Centre’s Udayan portal.These MSMEs employ around 1.2 crore workers, Maharashtra’s economic survey for 2023-24 said. The state has 32 lakh micro enterprises, 90,599 small and 11,509 medium. The micro enterprises employ 94.2 lakh workers, small ones employ 16.7 lakh workers and medium 12.6 lakh workers.
According to the survey, 2.4 crore MSMEs were registered on the portal as on March 11, 2024 and 16.9% are from the state. Till March 2024, under Micro and Small-Enterprises-Cluster Development Programme, Centre had approved 46 projects for setting up of common facility centres in the state and a grant of Rs 247 crore has been released. Of these, 24 are already operational.
Maharashtra also has the highest number of startups recognised by DPIIT, GoI.
