Stock market today: Sensex trade flat in opening session after hitting record high, Nifty above 23,550

Stock market today: BSE Sensex and Nifty50, the Indian equity benchmark indices trade flat in the opening session on Thursday, after hitting record highs in the previous session. The 30-share BSE Sensex climbed at 77,554.83, while NSE Nifty was trading at 23575.
Kotak Mahindra Bank, SBI Life Insurance, HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel and IndusInd Bank were among major gainers on the Nifty, while Sun Pharma , Bajaj Finance, Dr Reddy’s Labs, Power Grid Corp and HDFC Life were major laggards.
Asian markets experienced mixed results during the early trading hours on Thursday, including Hong Kong, Shanghai, Seoul, Wellington, Taipei, and Jakarta, witnessing slight gains. However, Tokyo, Sydney, Manila, and Singapore faced declines.
In Japan, the Nikkei index dropped by 0.63%. Similarly, Chinese stocks also faced downward pressure, with the blue-chip index falling by 0.34%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index also experienced a modest decline of 0.14%.
US markets were closed on Wednesday for the Juneteenth holiday. Wall Street’s hit record highs on Tuesday, largely attributed to Nvidia’s strong showing.
The Sensex on Wednesday ticked higher to scale yet another lifetime closing peak of 77,338, while the broader Nifty retreated from the record-high level amid a lack of immediate triggers.
Rallying for the fifth straight session, the Sensex climbed 36 points to settle at a new closing high of 77,338. During the day, it soared 550 points or 0.7% to hit the fresh lifetime peak of 77,852. The Nifty ended at 23,516, down 42 points. Intraday, it rose 106 points to hit a new record of 23,664.
