Amul milk price hiked by Rs 2/litre across all variants from June 3

NEW DELHI: The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) has announced a price hike of Rs 2 per litre for all variants of Amul milk, effective from Monday. This increase has been attributed to the rising costs of operation and milk production.
Jayen Mehta, MD of GCMMF, which markets ‘Amul’ brand milk and dairy products, said that the price revision was necessary to compensate farmers for their increased production costs.
The last price hike by GCMMF was in February 2023. With the current increase, the revised prices for 500 ml of Amul buffalo milk, Amul Gold milk, and Amul Shakti milk are Rs 36, Rs 33, and Rs 30, respectively. GCMMF emphasized that the hike, ranging from 3-4 percent in MRP, is significantly lower than the average food inflation.
“The increase of Rs 2 per litre translates to the range of 3-4 per cent increase in MRP which is much lower than the average food inflation. It is worthwhile to note that since February 2023, Amul has made no increase in prices of fresh pouch milk in major markets,” GCMMF said in a statement.
Amul’s policy is to pass on nearly 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers for milk and milk products to the milk producers. “The price revision shall help in sustaining remunerative milk prices to our milk producers and to encourage them for higher milk production,” the statement added. The price hike is expected to support farmers and ensure a stable supply of milk in the market.
