Russia’s premier annual foreign policy Forum ‘Primakov Readings’ will be held in Moscow on June 25-26 aiming to discuss BRICS priorities in the context of Russian Presidency of BRICS in 2024. The theme of the Forum is “Russia in the Global Context”.

The event will be attended by the Aide to the President of the Russian Federation Yury Ushakov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov, Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Konstantin Kosachev, Secretary General of the CIS Sergey Lebedev, as well as leading Russian and foreign experts in the field of international security, world politics and economics, representatives of public organizations, politicians and diplomats.

This autumn will mark the 95th anniversary of the birth of Yevgeny M. Primakov, former Russian PM. In light of this event, the main programme of the “Primakov Readings” will be opened by a session dedicated to his scientific and political legacy.

The discussions at the jubilee Forum will focus on the role of BRICS in shaping a new global economic architecture, vectors of interaction among the countries of Greater Eurasia, security in the Baltic region and the impact of contemporary crises on the future contours of European security, as well as the role of culture in international relations. The BRICS summit will be held in Kazan, Russia this October.

“We have decided to dedicate the jubilee X Primakov Readings to the theme “Russia in the Global Context”. What is the reason for this choice? Over the past nearly 10 years, we have discussed global issues: the risks of a return to confrontation, the horizons of post-globalisation, the rise of Eurasia, the peculiarities of the post-Covid world, and more. We warned about the West’s strategic miscalculations regarding hopes for an economic catastrophe in Russia under the influence of an unprecedented sanctions war in recent history; the inviolability of a unipolar world order; the possibility of a global blockade of our export-oriented economy. Such “strategic insanity” is a consequence of linear thinking, a lack of understanding of the global shifts in the balance of power in the 21st century, and the absolutisation of Anglo-Saxon or European historical and political experience,” according to President of IMEMO, Dt Alexander Dynkin.

“The main surprise for our adversaries was the fantastic resilience of the Russian economy. I dare say that today, no economy in the world, not even the Chinese one, would withstand such aggressive pressure. It seems that experts in the West understand less and less about Russian realities. They are looking, figuratively speaking, in the rearview mirror of their own rhetoric and propaganda,” according to Dynkin. The organizers of the event are the Primakov National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO), Russian Academy of Sciences; the Primakov Centre for Foreign Policy Cooperation, the World Trade Centre, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation. Several Indian experts will be part of the Primakov Readings.
