As per the new set of rules governing bike taxis and delivery service providers, all such operators have to declare details of their existing fleets, including particulars such as registration certificate, vehicle category and fuel type.

“Historically, delivery service providers have not been required to collect vehicle data. While delivery service providers are currently undertaking the exercise of getting the vehicle details and making efforts to ensure compliance, the response rate from gig workers is low. Therefore, further time will be required to ensure that all required details are collected,” the IAMAI wrote in its letter, which was seen by ET.

A senior executive working with a bike taxi operator said the rules do not permit plying of non-electric bike taxis on Delhi roads. “Once the declaration is made, there could be questions on non-EV bike taxis running,” he added.

According to industry sources, there are now around 90,000 bike taxis in Delhi, including both petrol-run vehicles and EVs.

In a separate statement, Gurugram-based Zomato said it was holding camps at 15 locations in Delhi to seek necessary details from delivery partners and register on the government portal.“Any vehicle that is not declared will not be permitted to ply in Delhi. So far, in its endeavour to ensure compliance with the ambitious timeline of June 14, 2024 and to ensure that no delivery partner is left behind, Zomato has so far organised camps at 15 different locations in the last few days across different spots in Delhi,” Zomato said in a statement.
