Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao, who is currently busy promoting his upcoming cricket drama ‘Mr & Mrs Mahi’ alongside Janhvi Kapoor, recently talked about a ritual he adapted from his late mother, Kamal Yadav, who passed away in 2016. The actor revealed that he has been devoted to fasting every Friday since he was a young boy, with his late mother serving as an inspiration.
During an interview with Curly Tales, Rajkummar shared, “I keep a fast on Fridays. It is something my mother would do for Santoshi Maa. I started following her ever since I was a kid — since I was 16 — and it has been a part of my life.”
Although Kamal Yadav is no more, the actor has faithfully kept the Friday fast. Rajkummar acknowledged that his adherence to the practice can increase the demands on his schedule, particularly when balancing promotions and staying energized on set. Nevertheless, he adjusts, often skipping meals completely or allowing for a single meal at night. “Sometimes, I do not eat any meals and sometimes, when I am working and I need to put in a lot of energy that day, I have one meal at night,” he shared.
The actor’s profound bond with his mother was also visible on his wedding day to Patralekhaa in 2021. In a heartwarming picture, Rajkummar was seen sitting in front of his late mother’s portrait and blowing her a tender kiss. “You will always be the best mother in this world, Maa,” he wrote in an emotional tribute. “I know your blessings are always with me. Miss you every day. I love you forever.”
Rajkummar posts heartfelt messages on the anniversary of his mother’s passing every year. He shared a photo of himself and his late mother a few years ago and wrote, “It’s been 5 years, Maa since you left us, but, there has not even been a single day since, wherein, I haven’t felt your presence. Nothing in this world would have been possible for me without your blessings and I know your blessings are still there with me…Nothing in this world would have been possible for me without your blessings and I know your blessings are still there with me. Mothers are the best and there is nothing in this world more valuable than a mother. I see you in every mother out there.”
On the work front, Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor’s film ‘Mr & Mrs Mahi’ is all set to hit the big screens on May 31.
